Season 2, Episodes 3 and 4 review
Now that episodes 3 and 4 have dropped, we can talk about the core problems the show continues to have. Even though these recent episodes have been good in isolation from each other, there is one thing the show might never get to address. Due to the small amount of episodes given to them, we never get to see the characters actually work towards redemption like the hotel claims.
We constantly hear about characters making progress towards bettering themselves, improving their relationships, and avoiding self-destructive behaviors. Yet, we have had little to no scenes of them going through those practices.
Once again, the story prioritizes the comedy over showing developments. For instance, in episode 3 of season 2, we hear Angel Dust has “mostly” quit using drugs. This is the kind of thing to confirm in a scene, and not only through dialogue. There are also times during episode 4 of season 2 that imply the characters hang out with each other outside of the scenes at the bar or the lounge. Of course, we don’t get to see any of these interactions. Even though, characters like Lucifer and Baxter are now present, we only get short jokes about them keeping to themselves and only interacting when they have to.
Although I still enjoy the show, it saddens me to see such fun characters being squandered. If the show truly wants to improve, we have to have actual scenes that address the show’s weak points.
