When the sky is crying

Poem by Rock Candy

When the sky is crying,

I don’t ask it to stop,

Even if it screws up my day,

Or makes me cry, too.

I tell it to let it out,

Because if it holds it in for too long,

The resulting disaster will be much more destructive,

When the sky is crying,

People get upset,

But they know all they can do is deal with it,

This makes the sky even more sad,

Because it knows everyone thinks it’s a nuisance,

And if they had the power, they would never want to deal with it all,

It can’t control itself,

It can’t be forced to change when it’s not ready,

It can’t even be courteous to others,

So, when we scream and curse at it,

When we live under it, paying it no mind,

When we blow our smoke and dust, and toxic words into its heart,

We know we are in the right.

“The sky is too sensitive,

The sky isn’t trying hard enough,

The sky thinks its needs are more important than mine,”

The sky cries, so it is the problem,

And everyone agrees that the sky should just get over itself,

And one day it will,

And it will never rain again,

And we’ll wonder why the air is suddenly so dry…
