How are you creative?
My whole life, my parents forced me away from the things I was passionate about. They didn’t understand that I didn’t want to live life just doing tasks to get by. I wanting to bring something new into existence.
Song Writing
Towards the end of my college years, I joined a wonderful band. They needed someone on back up vocals, and I eagerly filled the spot. Back then, I thought it would be a “just for fun” kind of thing, but the band members truly reignited my passion for music. This led me to try my hand at writing songs. As I got better with music theory and my voice got stronger, I felt the urge to create my own melodies and add lyrics. I found myself coping with strong emotions better and better, as I drafted ballads and rock songs. One day, I will hopefully record them professionally with the group.
Drawing
Whether it was original pieces or fan art, drawing was always fun for me. (Even if I wasn’t improving at the pace I wanted to) Character designs and art styles always intrigued me when I watched my favorite animated movies and shows. The way each character could communicate so much just through their design made my analytical brain delighted. I’m still no expert, but the process of drawing out a character truly makes me happy.
Storytelling
My novel, Illusory Adventures, is probably full of first time author mistakes, but I am so proud of it regardless. I had a good experience with my editor, and I feel like the experience told me a lot about myself. It tested my patience and dedication to the craft, yet was fun at the same time. The process of putting together and deepening character arcs and settings is pure bliss to me. Particularly, setting up magic systems and creating interesting weapons was something I wanted to focus on. I put my heart into the world, characters, and plot. So, it makes me happy even if others think it’s no good.
