Ramshackle Animated Pilot Review

Ramshackle (Pilot)

The overview

The pilot episode centers around three characters named Vinnie, Skipp and Stone, as they try to avoid starving on the streets of a big city. As they try to survive, they come across something unexpected that brings out their best and worst qualities.

The Animation

With the washed out colors and thick line work, the animation seems to pop while still making the audience feel how faded and isolated the setting is. The characters all feel like they belong in the atmosphere, but don’t get lost in the background either. The best part of the project is definitely the way the characters move and interact with the backgrounds. The fight scenes can feel a little slow, but that is more of a pacing problem rather than an animation problem.

The Plot

Unfortunately, the story of this episode feels like it struggled to balance the comedy and the characters. The jokes that revolve around critiquing society and capitalism do land, but it sometimes overshadows the characters’ personalities. Audiences will surely be entertained, but they will most likely not have a good sense of knowing the characters in a memorable way.

End Score

3.5/5
